Turning Everyday Work Into a Paid Data Partnership
MyPortal Marketing is a performance marketing agency with 50 employees across North America and the Philippines. After five years in business and work for more than 150 clients, the company had built up valuable operational data and repeatable workflows across its systems.
The opportunity
MyPortal discovered an opportunity to help improve advanced AI systems using the work its employees were already completing.
After an initial qualification process, the company joined two types of partnership. The first involved employees completing and evaluating real business workflows using AI agents. The second involved licensing an approved snapshot of existing company data through a one-time agreement.
Getting paid for real workflows
MyPortal’s employees created prompts based on tasks they already performed at work. The AI agent would then complete multi-step activities across tools such as Monday.com, including reviewing project tickets, identifying overdue work and producing reports.
Employees checked the results and helped identify where the AI agent performed well or needed to improve. This allowed MyPortal to earn from genuine business workflows while its team developed a better understanding of how AI could support their daily work.
The team was initially concerned about the time commitment. According to Grant Gooley, MyPortal’s founder and CEO, employees became more enthusiastic when they saw that the agents could also help them complete their existing work.
Licensing existing company data
MyPortal also participated in a separate, one-time data licensing process. The company agreed which information could be included and worked through a structured legal and privacy review before proceeding.
MyPortal did not provide private client information. Its agreements were reviewed by legal advisers, and privacy requirements formed part of the contractual process.
Grant described the onboarding and support as:
“It’s been white glove the whole way through.”
The experience
At the time of the interview, MyPortal had been participating for approximately two months. Grant said the support and guidance had been much more hands-on than he expected.
The company found that participation helped its employees understand AI more deeply while creating an additional source of revenue from work and data the business already produced.
Grant’s view of the opportunity was simple:
“Data is the new gold.”
Reflecting on the partnership, he said:
“It’s been a wonderful experience so far.”
The interview does not disclose MyPortal’s total payment or the final value of its data licensing agreement.
